How Pin Abroad collects, uses and protects the personal information you share with us.
Pin Abroad helps students and working professionals apply to universities overseas. To do that, we need some personal information from you. This page explains exactly what we collect, why we collect it, who else sees it, and what you can ask us to do with it. We have written it in plain language rather than legal boilerplate.
Pin Abroad is a study-abroad consultancy. Our head office is at 350 Orchard Road, #09-06 Shaw House, Singapore 238868, and we also operate from offices in Melbourne and Dubai.
This policy applies to pinabroad.com and to the counselling, application and visa-guidance services we provide. In this policy, "we", "us" and "our" mean Pin Abroad. "You" means anyone who visits this website or uses our services.
Pin Abroad is the controller of the personal information described here, which means we decide why and how it is used.
Almost everything we hold comes directly from you. When you fill in a form on this site, book a counselling session, email us or speak to a counsellor, we may collect:
| Where | What we collect |
|---|---|
| Counselling enquiry form (the pop-up and page forms) | Your name, phone number, email address and the study destinations you are interested in. |
| Ask-a-question form (on the homepage FAQ section) | Your question, email address and phone number. |
| Counselling sessions and follow-ups | Your academic history, test scores, work experience, budget, course and country preferences, and anything else you choose to tell your counsellor. |
| If you ask us to apply on your behalf | Application documents such as transcripts, degree certificates, English test results, statements of purpose, reference letters, passport details, financial documents and visa paperwork. |
You do not have to give us any of this. But if you choose not to, we may not be able to advise you properly or submit an application for you.
Like every website, ours runs on a web server that keeps standard access logs. These record your IP address, browser type, the pages you requested and the time you requested them. We use these logs for security and troubleshooting, not to build a profile of you.
What we do not do. We do not buy personal data from third parties, and we do not sell yours.
We use what you give us to:
We rely on your consent when you submit a form or ask us to act for you, on the performance of our agreement with you once you become a client, and on our legitimate interest in running and securing our business. Where the law requires consent, you can withdraw it at any time.
We do not make decisions about you using automated processing alone.
We share your information only where it is necessary, and only with the following:
This is the most significant sharing we do. If you ask us to apply on your behalf, we send your application and supporting documents to the universities and colleges you have chosen, and to the admissions partners those institutions use. Without this, an application cannot be made. We do not send your details to an institution you have not agreed to apply to.
We may share information with visa authorities, embassies or accommodation and travel providers where you have asked us to arrange something with them, and with professional advisers, regulators or law enforcement where we are legally required to do so.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers.
Studying abroad is by definition international, so your information will cross borders. Our offices are in Singapore, India, Australia and the United Arab Emirates, and the universities you apply to may be anywhere in the world.
Data protection laws differ between these countries. Where we transfer your information out of the country you are in, we take reasonable steps to ensure it remains protected to a comparable standard, including through contractual commitments with the parties who receive it.
We use very few. There are no advertising or analytics cookies on this site.
| Type | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Session cookie ( PHPSESSID) | Set by our appointment booking system to keep track of your session while you are using it. It expires when you close your browser. |
| Page caching | Our caching system stores a small amount of technical data in your browser to serve pages faster. It contains no personal information. |
Some pages load fonts and images from third parties, which means those providers will see your IP address. Where we link out to Google Maps to show an office location, Google's own privacy policy applies once you follow the link.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Doing so will not stop you using this site.
We do not keep personal information longer than we need it.
If you ask us to delete your information sooner, we will do so unless we are legally required to keep it.
Depending on where you live, you have some or all of the following rights over your personal information:
To exercise any of these, email info@pinabroad.com. We will respond within 30 days. We may ask you to confirm your identity first, so that we do not disclose your information to someone else.
If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your request, you can complain to the data protection authority in your country. In Singapore this is the Personal Data Protection Commission; in India, the Data Protection Board of India.
This website is served over an encrypted HTTPS connection. Access to our systems and to your records is limited to the counsellors and staff who need it, and is protected by individual accounts and passwords. Our hosting provider maintains regular backups.
No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee that information sent to us over the internet is safe in transit. If a breach occurs that puts your rights at risk, we will notify you and the relevant authority as the law requires.
Please do not send passwords, full bank account details or card numbers to us by email. We will never ask you for them.
Our services are aimed at students aged 16 and above. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 16 without the involvement of a parent or guardian. If you believe we hold information about a child, contact us and we will delete it.
We may update this policy as our services or the law change. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised. If we make a significant change to how we use your information, we will tell you directly where we can.
